Red Car Driving School Owner/Manager
I moved from England to Australia in 2004 and spent a year travelling around Australia in a motor home with my husband and two young daughters.
After completing our travels, we came across the Shoalhaven and fell in love with the green rolling countryside and the beautiful beaches and have made it our home since 2005.
I have always worked in procurement for I.T companies until one day my husband announced that he had decided he no longer wanted to spend a lot of his time travelling to Sydney for meetings and wanted to do something completely different, yet worth while. He decided to become trained as a driving instructor teaching young learner drivers (and some not so young) to become safer drivers on the roads of the Shoalhaven and that is where my new job role evolved, Manager, of ‘Red Car’, nearly 7 years ago.
The role has developed from answering the phone and taking bookings in a paper diary for one instructor to managing a cloud based booking system for five instructors, four facilitators and six coaches.
Our business became an approved provider of the RMS Safer Drivers Course two and a half years ago (we are 1 of 17 providers in New South Wales) and we initially ran the courses in Nowra and have since added Bowral and Kiama to our venues. This has kept me very busy scheduling the courses, booking venues, liaising with facilitators and coaches to make sure they are all where they need to be and at the correct times. I am lucky enough to have a very smart husband who designed a website, which enabled participants wishing to book our courses to do so online, with a secure credit card payment option (the site, and this one was built by Internetrix, who have done a fantastic job), which helps me with the workload.
As for hobbies, well, to be honest, the business does take up a lot of my time, with the technology I can be contacted 24/7 (trust me, I am) but when I can escape from the phone/computer, I am happy to do chores around the garden, spend time with my little granddaughter and a sit and soak in the hot tub.
